Sources say after listening to Chicago hip hop duo Apoc and Rel’s newest album The Night of Day, actor Joaquin Phoenix became so obsessed with Apoc’s lyrics he began reciting them day and night. As the weeks progressed the actor began believing he was Apoc himself. Although Apoc has been known to be seen frequenting local bars and pinball machines in the Los Angeles area he is not at the moment any where near Southern California. If you do see this man consider him armed and dangerous. Call the proper authorites immediatley as the police are on the search around the clock for this deeply troubled individual.

…this saturday…february 2nd there’s a benefit for john diprima at lizzie mcneil’s in chicago……john’s a close friend of mine, former roommate, and the best damn bartender in the city………he recently had to have an emergency appendectomy and his hospital bills are huge!!……he doesn’t have insurance as he works tending bar at lizzie’s……to help him out they are throwing this benefit……$40 gets you in for an all-you-can-drink(my words, not theirs) open bar from 4-8pm…..there will also be raffles…..all of the proceeds go towards paying john’s hospital bills……if you’re not familiar with lizzie’s, it’s located at 400 n. mcclurg court…right on the north side of the river……they pour the best guinness in town(prove me wrong!)……and they have invisible touch by genesis on their jukebox!!….what more could you ask for?!!?…..come get sauced with me……….

…..spent mlk weekend in bloomington indiana……commemorating the life and music of my good friend evan farell…….i’d love to tell you that i had a blast….but….as it turns out……mourning a recently passed friend isn’t much of a party…………but….still…..there were moments……..it was great to see borg, billy justice and mantooth…..sort of a reunion for my old band hobo knife……..and of course…..all of the japonize elephants……whose sunday night set at the bluebird was electric………..!!!!!…..heres a pic from it….
……the shadowy mr. evans was also in attendance…and even made a rare photo appearance with the also elusive billy justice…..
…no point in making that one any bigger……unfortunately the uncommon photo op was hindered by the bar’s poor lighting…..for those who don’t know……the shadowy mr. is, like me, a reverend of the church of celebritology……..
…..so…in conclusion……there is more than corn in indiana…..theres booze……and lots of it….im still drying out…..

……met up with earmint last night to work on some musics n arts……on the drive down listened to the roll deep album rules & regulations…..can’t seem to get enough of the grime recently…….on the way home listened to wiley’s fantastic playtime is over…….the bulls lost……but their winning tonight……….the mintstache is intimidating…..i don’t know if he is fully aware of its power yet……for our sake…i hope he never figures it out……..psalm one was there……….shes moving to oakland…….heres a picture of her….

evan farell was the bass player and vocalist for the oakland-based psychedelic gypsy-grass(is that a genre??) band japonize elephants…….one of my favorite bands on the planet….ever…..he also performed in the elephants experi-metal(now thats gotta be a genre) side project mega-mousse…as well as touring as the bassist for rogue wave…and making several unannounced appearances as dadaist lounge singer gogo yaya…..his music has always been inspirational and influential on my own….but i was fortunate enough to also know him as a friend…..one of the funniest, most irreverent and passionate individuals ive ever had the pleasure of knowing………tragically he passed away on the 24th of december 2007……the elephants will be playing a benefit for the family at the bluebird in bloomington indiana on the 20th of january…….what follows is an email i recently received from jeremy of the japonize elephants………
Greetings all who know/love Evan,
Last Friday morning the World lost one of its very best humans it had. Evan Luke Farrell was caught in a fire at his friend’s house in Oakland, Ca and was unable to get out. He had woken up everybody in the house before he collapsed to smoke inhalation. He was revived by paramedics, but not soon enough. Evan was kept alive by life support ’till just before Christmas. Evan was in California to record an album with the Japonize Elephants, and we had played a gig that night. Evan was in a great space all week. He was funnier than ever. Over the weekend dozens of his California friends, and his family were able to see him, and be with him. Hug him and hold him. And say goodbye. His wife, Jill Nielsen Farrell spent every minute right by his side. We gathered around him and sung him songs, and told jokes and stories. He was greatly loved. He gifted his organs, many of which reached their new homes in Christmas day. Evan had medical insurance that will cover some of the costs, but he had no life insurance. They have two children and a house they just bought. The most important thing for the family is that they dont lose the house. This is where we come in. An account has been set up to help the family. This week has been extremely hard for everybody, and I hope you all are finding comfort in how lucky we were to know such an amazing soul. We are all better people having known him. He taught each of us how to live better. He lived every day like it was his last. He went for it in everything he did. There is a memorial service that will most likely be on MLK weekend. ….went to a heartbreaker of a bulls game last night…..double overtime loss to the best high school team in the nba…..the portland trailblazers….and thats not a shot at the blazers….they’re just really really young….(9 players under the age of 25, 10 if you count the injured oden)….to be playing such good ball…(winning 15 of their last 16 games)…….but hey at least the beer was really expensive, right??….another dreary chapter in the sad legacy of chicago sports is underway at the united center this season………and for some reason i can’t seem to help but care…..

…so anyone who is relatively familiar with me or my music is probably also familiar with my ongoing fascination with actress zooey deschanel……what they might not know is that she also can sing..as she has done for some years with sam shelton in the cabaret duo if all the stars were pretty babies…………and..yes…i have seen them perform live…but she has a new project she’s working on with portland oregon based folk singer m. ward…they’re calling themselves “she and him” and released a demo version of a song called “sentimental heart” on ReadyMade magazine’s holidaze compilation…..the song has spent the last month embedding itself in my psyche and now i can’t get it out…..so i’m sharing it with all of you….all you have to do is go to readymademag.com/rm32compilation and enter the user name ReadyMaker and the password Holidaze …….and you should be able to download it and a number of other songs……please let me know if this song is really as good as i think it is or if it’s just another symptom of my zooey obsession……..

…so i got this brand new year the other day….wait til you see it……its soooo much better than my old year……it has 52 weeks and……get this…….366 days!!!!!…..thats right….my old year only had 365 days….but this new year is not just new…..its improved!!!!……the extra day is at the end of february…..it’ll be counted as the the 29th of february…..crazy, huh??…..i know……who’dda thunk it?!!?…..ohhhh…my new year is so shiny n fantastic…..i do love it so……..but don’t get jealous…….no…..im not telling you about my new year just so i can lord it over your heads and taunt you with it…..not in the least…….i’m in a generous mood today…..so i’ve decided to share my brand new year with all of you!!!…….thats right…..so go throw out that old year thats been sitting around getting moldy for the last three days…….you don’t need it anymore!!!….yepp…thanks to your good old uncle apoc you’ve got a fresh new calendar of 363 more days to burn through!!…..don’t spend ‘em all in one place!!!!…..no no…..no need to thank me…..thats not why i do this sort of thing…….but….you’re welcome………i’m glad you like it……i knew you would…….i saw it there on the shelf and instantly i thought of you…….but this isn’t a gift to be horded…..please make sure you share it with all your friends……thats how you get the most out of a brand spanking new year like this one……
