…this saturday…february 2nd there’s a benefit for john diprima at lizzie mcneil’s in chicago……john’s a close friend of mine, former roommate, and the best damn bartender in the city………he recently had to have an emergency appendectomy and his hospital bills are huge!!……he doesn’t have insurance as he works tending bar at lizzie’s……to help him out they are throwing this benefit……$40 gets you in for an all-you-can-drink(my words, not theirs) open bar from 4-8pm…..there will also be raffles…..all of the proceeds go towards paying john’s hospital bills……if you’re not familiar with lizzie’s, it’s located at 400 n. mcclurg court…right on the north side of the river……they pour the best guinness in town(prove me wrong!)……and they have invisible touch by genesis on their jukebox!!….what more could you ask for?!!?…..come get sauced with me……….

..ya ever wake up n find one of these on your couch????……happens to me all the time…..suppose it’s a sign of the company i keep……….this one’s okay though…….he brought tallboys of old style with him…..

….theres this new site called everyblock.com that i stumbled upon….you can type in your zipcode…..n it will display all relevant things happening in your hood…….from recent crimes to pics posted on flickr……unfortunately its only in chicago, new york, and san francisco as of yet……interesting idea though…..

….sundance is officially over….n from what i hear…..i didn’t miss much by not attending this year…..you can read what one what here……..however, i recently rewatched one of me favorites from last year’s fest….gregg araki’s stoner comedy smiley face as it just became available on dvd…..fucking hilarious…..i still love it……but if you don’t smoke pot….you probably won’t…….if that’s the case then go rent ghosts of city soleil…….one of my favorites from the 2006 telluride film festival…also recently released on dvd……

….a good day for the nba…….three games on the telly…..that means daytime basketball viewing….which is the best kind……too bad its balls-freezing cold out n i can’t go outside n shoot a game of h.o.r.s.e. at halftime………first the magic beat the formerly infallible boston celtics……i stood n applauded after hedo turkoglu’s buzzer-beating three pointer……i’ve been cheering that turk on since he wore a king’s jersey…is turk a derogatory term for a turkish person????……i don’t think so…it just sounds like it…..maybe it’s like it is with jew….where it kind of depends on the context………in the next game the cavs beat the lakers…..now i initially found myself sort of reluctantly cheering on the cavs more out of spite for the lakers than anything else……but then….as i watched….i realized that between lebron’s under-chin shadow and drew gooden’s stand-alone bushy chin-strap…..the cavs are kind of the unofficial mascots of bearded basketball…..and as a fellow beard-sporter….i’m kind of obligated to support them…plus larry hughes looks like a doppelganger of juelz santana aka crack in the flesh……soooo…..i, apoc, being of sound mind and body do hereby pledge my future support of the cleveland cavaliers……from the bottom of my beard………….in the third game, a carmelo-less nuggets team lost to the mavericks…….ehhh…….it happens….nene and atkins are out as well…..gosh i love em….but they just can’t seem to stay healthy……….speaking of which………the bulls also played today……at noon….but the game was nowhere to be found on television…..even in chicago…….guess somebody wanted to spare us the pain of their inevitable defeat by the phoenix suns……..with deng n gordon still on the bench…..uggghhh……somebody call me when we finally make a trade……….until then…….

…went to the united center last night n watched the chicago bulls actually win a game…..despite gordon, deng n duhon sittin on the bench in street clothes……..hinrich had a career high with 38 points…….n noah had a double double!!!…….the game marked the halfway point of the season………n put us one game out of the last playoff spot…….not quite where we’d hoped to be……but i’ll take the win……celebrating small concessions at this point……

…..spent mlk weekend in bloomington indiana……commemorating the life and music of my good friend evan farell…….i’d love to tell you that i had a blast….but….as it turns out……mourning a recently passed friend isn’t much of a party…………but….still…..there were moments……..it was great to see borg, billy justice and mantooth…..sort of a reunion for my old band hobo knife……..and of course…..all of the japonize elephants……whose sunday night set at the bluebird was electric………..!!!!!…..heres a pic from it….

……the shadowy mr. evans was also in attendance…and even made a rare photo appearance with the also elusive billy justice…..

…no point in making that one any bigger……unfortunately the uncommon photo op was hindered by the bar’s poor lighting…..for those who don’t know……the shadowy mr. is, like me, a reverend of the church of celebritology……..

…..so…in conclusion……there is more than corn in indiana…..theres booze……and lots of it….im still drying out…..

earmint displays the awesome power of his mustache

……met up with earmint last night to work on some musics n arts……on the drive down listened to the roll deep album rules & regulations…..can’t seem to get enough of the grime recently…….on the way home listened to wiley’s fantastic playtime is over…….the bulls lost……but their winning tonight……….the mintstache is intimidating…..i don’t know if he is fully aware of its power yet……for our sake…i hope he never figures it out……..psalm one was there……….shes moving to oakland…….heres a picture of her….

……breathe…….hell of a weekend……friday hit up rodan and the burlington armed with a flask of jamison, two associates who had a head start when it came to spirits imbibed, and a coat that made me look like an extra from teen wolf…….(of course my beard and hair make me look like teen wolf himself….but thats another story)……..burlington had $2 cans of schlitz…(just the kiss of the hops)……after a pair of drive-bys past 2 late night establishments with lines decorating their sidewalks….and their neighbors’ sidewalks…..and their neighbors’ neighbors’ sidewalks…..i retreated to the brauer house to drink lacrosse with rel, moodswangz and joey from the audition(who left for tour far too early the following morning)……we decided to leave after our friend dom smashed a martini glass over his head and then asked for our help picking the glass out of his skull……..but it didnt end there…….and at 6 in the morning or so when someone said “tomorrows a whole ‘nother day” i raised my eyebrows and hit the hay…….something about that sounded like a threat in light of the……well……light that had already started to stream through the cracks in the blinds…….saturday i managed to tolerate 3 whole hours of waking life before being driven back to the drink………back to the origins of the previous evenings first transgressions….a few doors down from rodan at peoples lounge where maker and intel of the come ups were providing the soundtrack for some wayward souls seeking spirits and late night eats……suddenly my middle digits began to twitch and i realized i couldn’t deny them the joys of flipper switching any longer……so we headed over to rainbo club to play the nascar pinball…..after closing rainbo down…..we continued on to the old town ale house where we played family guy pinball til they kicked us out at 5am……then headed back to my friends place with the dame he picked up(who took a cab in the morning and didnt ask for his phone number!!) and i passed out on his couch…….sunday was pills, pot n californication(which is halfway decent)………..its monday now……….im drinking again…….
